Cutting turf is the process of taking a list of voters from Create a List and organizing them into geographic units for knocking doors. You’ll want to bring your artistic a-game (artistic skills not actually required), because you’re basically drawing shapes on a map.
Once you’ve created the list of voters you would like to contact for a given canvass (please note canvassing lists are limited to 5K), select the “Cut Turf” button from the top of your list page.
VAN will display a map with all addresses in your list.
Click on the map to place your first geographic marker.
When you click somewhere else on the map, it will drop a second marker on the map and draw a line between them.
Using your geographic markers, draw around your dots to include them in a turf.
Once a marker has been placed, you can move it by clicking and holding on it.
Complete the individual turf by clicking on your first dot again.
Try to create turfs that are roughly equal in the number of doors per volunteer.
