Virtual phone banks allow you to call voters in VAN and enter data from your conversations in real-time. The virtual phone bank will display your script for volunteers to read through, along with easy dropdowns to enter survey questions, edit/add contact details like email addresses, and schedule volunteers for events.

Recommend Settings:

1. When starting a VPB, use a static list:

2. When deciding the Sharing setting:

You should publish to openvpb.com. If you select "Not visible on openvpb.com", your canvassers will always need to sign into VAN instead of using their ActionId.

3. Additional Settings:

Distribute voters by Zip Code: Ask volunteers/canvassers for zip codes and this will pool numbers by location.

Householding: Display tabs for other people in the household. Show only people in household from virtual phone bank list

Alternate numbers: attempt alternate numbers to filter out bad data and get good and correct phone numbers/data

Skipping: Allow users to skip contacts and household. Not allowing makes it people more likely to put bad data because they won’t be able to go to the next contact without a response.

4. Display Settings:

It is recommended to use a Designated Contact. This will allow your volunteers/canvassers to reach out for help by having a contact name and phone number available to them.

5. Editable Contact Details:

Please enable certain options depending on the level of trust given to your volunteers/canvassers. You can enable email and notes. If you enable addresses, it will edit the mailing address. Voting addresses come from the voter file and are updated when a new voter file is uploaded to VAN.
