When a new VAN account is created for you, you'll get an email invite from the email address no-reply@ngpvan.com.. You will need to accept this invitation to set up your new VAN account. Even if you already have a VAN account and are just being added to a new VAN committee, you will still need to accept this invitation in order to link your new account to your existing ActionID login.


There are two different paths to setting up a new VAN account based on whether you already have an ActionID login. If you have previously logged in to any NGPVAN applications, you should already have an ActionID. This includes logging in to MiniVAN, OpenVPB, a different VAN account, NGP 8, and EveryAction. If you've previously used any of these apps, you should use the same email and password to log in to your new VAN account. You can read more about ActionID here: What is ActionID? 


Path 1: You don't have an ActionID


Accept Invitation

Open the email invite from no-reply@ngpvan.com and click "Accept Invitation"

Create your ActionID account by filling out the form:


Set up your Two-Factor Authentication:

Two-Factor Authentication is required for logging in to VAN. If you skip this step, you will not be able to log in to your VAN account. You can read more about Two-Factor Authentication here: [insert article on 2FA]


There are two 2FA methods you can choose from: 

  • Authenticator App: This is the most secure 2FA method and the one we recommend. There are several apps you can download from the App Store on your phone, including Google Authenticator and Authy. When you select this option, you'll be shown a QR code on your computer that you need to scan with the authenticator app on your phone. Once you scan the code, your account email with be displayed in your app along with a 6-digit code that you'll need to enter underneath the QR code.
  • Text Message (SMS): This method is less secure than using an authenticator app, and is also susceptible to occasional SMS network outages that could affect your ability to log in to VAN for the duration of the outage. If you decide to use this method, you'll immediately be sent a text message with a 6-digit code that you'll enter when prompted. 


Confirmation


At this point, you should receive a confirmation message that your VoteBuilder(VAN) account has been successfully connected to your ActionID login. Click "Done" to proceed.


If you don't receive this message, or you receive a message that your accounts are not connected, go back to the invitation email and go through the previous steps again. If you're still receiving a "Not Connected" message, send us an email at van@michigandems.com so we can take a look. 



Accept User Agreements


There are two user agreements that you'll need to accept. Click the check box under each agreement. Then click the blue "Exit" button in the bottom right corner of the page. At this point, you'll be redirected to your VAN homepage! 



Path 2: You already have an ActionID login


Accept Invitation

Open the email invite from no-reply@ngpvan.com and click "Accept Invitation." This is required even if you already have another VAN account.


Login

Log in using your existing ActionID email and password.


Confirmation


At this point, you should receive a confirmation message that your VoteBuilder(VAN) account has been successfully connected to your ActionID login. Click "Done" to proceed.


**You will get an error message here if you don't have two-factor authentication enabled for your ActionID. If this is the case, go to accounts.ngpvan.com where you can view your ActionID profile. When you look under the Two-Factor Authentication section of your profile, it might have a red dot and say "Off." Click on the blue "Edit Profile" button. Scroll down to the Two-factor authentication section, where you can choose an authentication method and go through the setup. Once you have set up your 2FA, go back to the email invitation and re-accept.
