Hello MI VAN Users!

We have a few items to share with you this week:

September Voter File Update

The latest voter file update for September landed in VAN this week. This file added 23158 new records, along with vote history for the August 2023 Primary Election.

Newly Registered Targets

We’ve rolled out a couple VAN targets for new voter registrations. There are two targets available: 

  • Newly Registered: These are voters who have registered in MI for the first time within the past year. 
  • Recently Moved: This target includes voters who have updated their voter registration from one county in MI to another county within the past year. 

Both targets are filtered to exclude likely Republican voters based on our Likely Party targets. This target will be updated each month when new voter files are uploaded to VAN.

If you’re combining this target with other targets, make sure you add a step to narrow your list. Do not combine multiple targets in one step. If you need more guidance on adding steps, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

Absentee Voter Data for November Election

Absentee voter data for the November election is now available in VAN. Daily AV uploads will begin on Monday, September 25. Daily AV files will continue through Election Day on November 7. Files are delivered every business day and are typically available in VAN by 11am. You can find AV data in Create a List under the Early Vote section. Data includes ballots requested, ballots sent by the Clerk, and ballots returned to the Clerk.

2023 Offyear Turnout Score

A new score is available in VAN for offyear (odd numbered year) general election turnout. This score was built by TargetSmart and predicts the likelihood of turnout in 2023 municipal general elections on a scale of 0 to 100. This score does not incorporate any data on partisanship, so it should be used in combination with Likely Party targets and/or Dem Support scores.
